Noisy Bandsaw

From Robtert Mashburn, via e-mail

My Shopsmith MARK V is about 12 years old and has been a wonderful pleasure to me and my family and friends with lots of projects completed. My question is about my Bandsaw making noise. I’ve checked the bearings and am sure one of them is the noise-maker. Should I change them all, or is there a way to check and replace only the defective one?

If your problem appears to be in your Bandsaw Wheels (you can tell by removing the blade, spinning the wheels by hand and listening closely), you’ll need to replace the noisy wheel assembly (assemblies), since the bearings in these wheel assemblies are pressed into position and are not serviceable. For the upper assembly, order part # 555074. For the lower assembly, order part # 509032. Lower wheel problems, are, by the way, very rare.

If your problem appears to be in your blade guide bearings, the best solution is to replace them with part
# 555074 (Bandsaw Retro-Fit Kit). This Kit includes all FOUR bearings and although it’s called a “Retro-Fit Kit”, it is the same as our current Bandsaw Bearings.
