STEP 5 -- Jig Drilling
The rip fence and miter gauge can be mounted and locked onto the table surface to form jigs for drilling identical holes in duplicate pieces of stock.
To set up a jig, be sure all your pieces of stock are the identical dimension. Mark the position of your hole(s) on one of your workpieces. Position the rip fence, miter gauge and table tilt as required to support your stock while you drill. Shown here are jigs for:
- Drilling dowel holes in a mitered furniture component.
- Drilling holes in a turned leg.
- Drilling screw pockets for joining furniture or cabinet components.
